Ask your SNA administrator to configure the Microsoft SNA gateway for the PU. Your SNA administrator must configure a Microsoft SNA gateway connection for the BARR/RJE PU defined to VTAM. Your SNA gateway can be Microsoft SNA Server, SNA Workstation, or HIS. See the System requirements topic for more information.
These steps assume that your SNA gateway is already connected to the host with a valid PU definition. If you need instructions on defining a PU, refer to your SNA gateway Help. If you are using Microsoft SNA Workstation, follow the configuration steps for Microsoft SNA Server.
The LU names and LU numbers you create must match the information provided by the VTAM programmer.
Open Microsoft SNA Manager.
Select the connection you want to configure from the list on the left side of the window.
On the menu bar, select Insert | 3270 | Application LU (LUA).
In the LU Name box, enter the LU name provided by the VTAM programmer.
In the Host LU Number box, enter the LU number provided by the VTAM programmer (LOCADDR parameter).
Use the LU macro formula to calculate the number of LUs you need. Repeat steps 3 through 5 as many times as necessary.
Select the Pools folder on the left side of the window.
On the menu bar, select Insert | Pool | LUA LU Pool. The Pool Properties dialog box displays.
Enter the Pool Name, and then click OK. This name must be in all uppercase characters and match the pool name entered when you configure the link in BARR/RJE. When you configure the communication link in BARR/RJE, the default pool name is RJEPOOL. We suggest using this name, to ensure the pool names match.
Assign the pool to one or more users. Refer to your Microsoft SNA Server Help for more information.
Open Microsoft SNA Manager.
Right-click the connection you want to configure from the list on the left side of the window and select New | Application LU (LUA).
In the LU Number box, enter the LU number provided by the VTAM programmer (LOCADDR parameter).
In the LU Name box, enter the LU name provided by the VTAM programmer.

Right-click the Pools folder on the left side of the window and select New | LUA LU Pool.
Refer to your Microsoft HIS Help for more information.
This configuration step is necessary only if you use the Fujitsu Network Architecture (FNA) or Hitachi Network Architecture (HNA). Microsoft SNA gateways support FNA Acronym for Fujitsu Network Architecture, a Japanese systems network architecture. A description of logical structure, formats, protocols, and operational sequences for transmitting information units through and controlling the configuration and operation of networks. and HNA Acronym for Hitachi Network Architecture, a Japanese systems network architecture. A description of logical structure, formats, protocols, and operational sequences for transmitting information units through and controlling the configuration and operation of networks.. To set up support, complete the following steps using the Windows Registry Editor.
The system registry contains information about how your computer runs, and your computer may not work if there is an error in your registry. If you are unfamiliar with the Registry Editor, we do not recommend that you perform this procedure. Please contact Barr Systems Technical Support and reference this topic to be walked through this procedure.
Stop the SnaBase service.
On the taskbar, click Start | Run.
Type REGEDIT, and then click OK. The Registry Editor displays.
Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SYSTEM | CurrentControlSet | Services | SnaServr | Parameters.
Add the following registry keys, where Value is the administrator-determined value to identify the FNA or HNA protocol to the SNA gateway.
To enable FNA support, add FNA_SUPPORT: REG_SZ: Value
To enable HNA support, add HNA_SUPPORT: REG_SZ: Value
To test the SNA connection, you must activate the SNA gateway PU and check the status of the LUs.
Complete the following steps to activate the SNA gateway PU.
Open Microsoft SNA Manager.
Right-click the SNA service and select Start.
After the service is active, right-click the connection and select Start.
Once the connection's state displays Active, the VTAM PU will be active. If the connection's state does not display Active, check your host's console for messages.
Complete the following steps to check the status of the LUs.
Select the connection where the LUs are defined.
On the right side, the LUs will appear in an In Session state. If the LU does not appear in an In Session state, check to make sure that both the VTAM PU and the connection have been activated. The following table displays the states that can appear in the window.
State |
Solution |
Inactive |
Verify that the PU has been activated. |
Available |
The LU is active, but the BARR RJE service is not connected. Try restarting the BARR RJE service. Check your Pool name on the Pool Properties dialog box. |
SSCP |
You are connected to VTAM, but your RJE remote is not logged on. Check the Remote name, Password, LOGMODE, and APPLID values on the RJE Description tab. |
In Session |
Your RJE remote is fully connected. |
