A control file is used to store previously saved print file settings. You can save different control files to spool different types of files. Only one control file can be active at a time, and the control file is active only while Print Utility is running. The control file settings supply document attributes (header values) and the file disposition.
Two control files are installed by default, Spool.ctr and RJE.ctr. The RJE.ctr file is created with settings specific to the BARR/RJE module. If you have installed BARR/RJE, the default control file is RJE.ctr. If you have not installed BARR/RJE, the default control file is Spool.ctr. The default control files are stored in the \\Program Files\Barr\Spooler\Settings folder.
Complete the following steps to create a control file.
Set up Print Utility to manually send files to the spool.
From the Manual Spooling tab, click Save As.
Specify a file name and path, and then click Save. When you assign control file names, use the extension .ctr so the control files will be easy to identify. By default, control files are stored in the \\Program Files\Barr\Spooler\Settings folder.
Complete the following steps to select a control file.
Open Print Utility.
Select the Manual Spooling tab.
Use one of the following methods to select the control file.
Select a control file from the control file drop-down list. This is a list of previously created control files.
Click the folder button, and select the control file. By default, control files are stored in the \\Program Files\Barr\Spooler\Settings folder. Click Open.
Complete the following steps to modify a control file.
Open Print Utility.
From the Manual Spooling tab, select the desired control file.
Modify the control file attributes as necessary, then click Save. By default, control files are stored in the \\Program Files\Barr\Spooler\Settings folder.
The UnInstall program does not delete user-created control files when you remove BARR/SPOOL. Complete the following steps to delete spooling control files from the Windows Explorer.
Open Print Utility.
From the Manual Spooling tab, verify that the control file is not currently in use.
Use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the spool control files folder and delete the control file. By default, control files are stored in the \\Program Files\Barr\Spooler\Settings folder.
