Working with printer groups

Configuration Utility

You can assign spool printers to groups and then route spool files to multiple printers. Use the Configuration Utility's Printer Groups tab to maintain spool printer groups.

Printer groups cannot process SYSIN data.

Creating printer groups

Complete the following steps to create a spool printer group. The printer groups you modified are automatically saved when you select another tab or click OK to exit the Configuration Utility. To cancel your changes, click Cancel.

  1. Open the Configuration Utility.

  2. From the Printer Groups tab, click Add, or right-click the Printer Groups column and select Add.

  3. Enter the group name and press ENTER.

  4. In the Printers column, select the printers you want to assign to the group.

  1. Create an override table for multiple destination routing.

Modifying printer groups

Complete the following steps to modify a printer group. The printer groups you modified are automatically saved when you select another tab or click OK to exit the Configuration Utility. To cancel your changes, click Cancel.

  1. Open the Configuration Utility.

  2. From the Printer Groups tab, select the printer group you want to modify.

  3. In the Printers column, change printer assignments.

  1. Modify the override table for multiple destination routing to match the new printer groups.

Copying printer groups

Complete the following steps to copy a spool printer group.

  1. Open the Configuration Utility.

  2. From the Printer Groups tab, select the printer group you want to copy and click Copy, or right-click a printer group and select Copy.

  3. Rename the printer group, if necessary.

  4. Modify the printer group, if necessary.

  5. Click OK to exit the Configuration Utility and save any changes. Your changes are saved automatically when you select another tab. To cancel your changes, click Cancel.

Renaming printer groups

Complete the following steps to rename a spool printer group.

  1. Open the Configuration Utility.

  2. From the Printer Groups tab, select the printer group you want to rename and click Rename, or right-click a printer group and select Rename.

  3. Enter the new group name.

  4. Click OK to exit the Configuration Utility and save any changes. Your changes are saved automatically when you select another tab. To cancel your changes, click Cancel.

Removing printer groups

Complete the following steps to remove a printer group.

  1. Open the Configuration Utility.

  2. From the Printer Groups tab, select the printer group you want to remove.

  3. Click Remove, or right-click the printer group and select Remove.

  4. A dialog displays asking you to confirm the deletion. Click Yes to delete or No to cancel the deletion.

  5. Click OK to exit the Configuration Utility and save any changes. Your changes are saved automatically when you select another tab. To cancel your changes, click Cancel.
