Controlling connections

After you configure your connections, use the following procedures to start, stop, or restart the connections.

You must be a member of the local Administrators group to start or stop connections. If you are not a member of the local Administrators group, connections must be configured to start automatically with Windows startup. On the Communications tab, select Automatic as your Startup type.

Starting connections

Connections must be started to use BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. Complete the following steps to start the connection manually.

You can also configure connections to start automatically with Windows startup. On the Communications tab, select Automatic as your Startup type.

  1. Open BARR/PRINT CHANNEL.

  2. Select the connection you want to start.

  3. Use one of the following methods to start the selected connection. Once the connection is started, BARR/PRINT CHANNEL is ready to receive jobs from the host.

  4. On the menu bar, select Connection | Start.

  5. Right-click the connection and select Start.

Stopping connections

Connections must be stopped before you can modify or remove a connection. Complete the following steps to stop the connection.

If connections are stopped when data is being received from the host, the data stream The uninterrupted transfer of information over an interface to achieve high data transfer rates will stop and an error will occur at the host.

  1. Open BARR/PRINT CHANNEL.

  2. Select the connection you want to stop.

  3. Use one of the following methods to stop the selected connection.

  4. On the menu bar, select Connection | Stop.

  5. Right-click the connection and select Stop.

Restarting connections

If you are experiencing problems with a connection, your first step in troubleshooting should be to restart the connection. Complete the following steps to restart the connection.

  1. Open BARR/PRINT CHANNEL.

  2. Select the connection you want to restart.

  3. Use one of the following methods to restart the selected connection. Once the connection is started, BARR/PRINT CHANNEL is ready to receive jobs from the host.

  4. On the menu bar, select Connection | Restart.

  5. Right-click the connection and select Restart.
