Configuring SNMP monitoring

Administration

You can use the Configure SNMP utility to configure each Bar EOM SNMP Service. You can determine how frequently the Bar EOM SNMP Service will update EOM destinations that are auto-detected SNMP printers. The SNMP update has two types of values, dynamic and static, each with their own frequency setting. Dynamic values are values that can change while the printer is being used, such as out of paper and low on toner. Static values are values that do not change or change very infrequently, such as the printers name and IP address. In most cases, you should configure the dynamic values to update more frequently than the static values. Dynamic value updates are needed to maintain timely alerts so the printer can stay operational.

Complete the following steps to configure SNMP monitoring for Barr EOM.

  1. From the EOM Console navigation pane, select the Administration application.

  2. In the navigation pane, click Configure SNMP. The Configure SNMP Utility displays in the right panel.

To configure SNMP services

  1. In the SNMP Services grid, select the check box for the servers you want to update. The grid lists all of the servers with the Barr EOM SNMP Service installed and the configuration parameters for each service.

  2. Complete the following steps to perform a dynamic update.

  1. Click the Update Dynamic Values check box for the appropriate rows.

  2. To set an automatic update frequency, click the Dynamic Update Frequency cell and enter how often you want to update destinations. The frequency format is hh:mm:ss (hours:minutes:seconds). By default the dynamic update frequency is set to one minute, 00:01:00.

  3. To configure a timeout period for the update, click the Dynamic Timeout cell and enter the timeout period in seconds. By default, the timeout is set to 0, meaning there is no timeout period.

  1. Complete the following steps to perform a static update.

  1. Click the Update Static Values check box for the appropriate rows.

  2. To set an automatic update frequency, click the Static Update Frequency cell and enter how often you want to update destinations. The frequency format is dd.hh:mm:ss (days.hours:minutes:seconds).

  3. To configure a timeout period for the update, click the Static Timeout cell and enter the timeout period in seconds. By default, the timeout is set to 0, meaning there is no timeout period.

  4. To save any frequency and timeout changes, click Apply.

  5. To perform the selected updates for each selected server, click Update Now. The Last Update Time column will update to show the date and time the update was performed. In the SNMP Devices grid, the EOM destination SNMP printers will also show the updated time.

To configure SNMP Devices

These steps will be performed from the SNMP Devices grid. The grid lists all of the SNMP devices that have been detected using the Detect Printers utility. Notice there are three tabs below the grid, Devices With Destinations, Devices Without Destinations, and All Devices.

To perform an SNMP update immediately for detected SNMP devices

  1. Select the check box for SNMP devices you want to update. You can perform an update from any of the tab pages.

  2. Click Update Now.

To add detected devices as Barr EOM Socket destinations

  2. Click Add Socket Destination.

  3. From the Select Destination Server dialog box, select the appropriate Server and click OK. These printers are moved to the Devices With Destinations tab.

  4. To add socket destinations for additional servers, repeat these steps.

To add detected devices as Barr EOM LPR destinations

  1. From the Devices Without Destinations tab, select the check boxes for each device you want to be added as a Barr EOM LPR destination for a specific server.
