User Rights Configuration - Available user rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign global access rights to a user or local or network group. Changes to user rights will take effect within one hour, or you can change them immediately by restarting the computer.

To assign user rights, you must be a member of the local Administrators group or be assigned the Configure - User Security right.

Configure rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign these global configuration rights.

Option

Description

Accounting

Allows the user to configure the accounting system. If this right has not been granted, the Configuration Utility's Accounting tab will not be visible.

Channel Input Port

Allows the user to receive documents from BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. If this right has not been granted, the Channel Input Port command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

NJE

Allows the user to access the NJE Configuration Utility. If this right has not been granted, the NJE Configuration command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

Notes

Allows the user to enter information that users can access by clicking Notes on the About Spool Window dialog box. If this right has not been granted, the Configuration Utility's Notes tab will not be visible.

Override Table

Allows the user to use override tables to set override header field values for individual jobs. If this right has not been granted, the Configuration Utility's Override Table tab will not be visible.

For this right to function properly, the user must be granted the Configure - Restart SpoolCore right. This additional right will be automatically granted by the User Rights Configuration Utility.

Print Utility

Allows the user to access Print Utility. If this right has not been granted, the Print Utility command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

For this right to function properly, the user must be granted the Configure - Restart SpoolCore right. This additional right will be automatically granted by the User Rights Configuration Utility.

PRINT TCP/IP

Allows the user to access TCP/IP. If this right has not been granted, the TCP/IP Configuration command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

Printer and Disk Settings

Allows the user to modify printer and disk space settings. If this right has not been granted, the Configuration Utility's Spool and Retain, Resource Folders, and Spool Printers tabs will not be visible.

For this right to function properly, the user must be granted the Configure - Restart SpoolCore right. This additional right will be automatically granted by the User Rights Configuration Utility.

Restart SpoolCore

Allows the user to restart the BARR SpoolCore service from the Spool Window.

RJE

Allows the user to operate the RJE Configuration Utility in read-only mode. To configure RJE, you must be a member of the local Administrators group. If this right has not been granted, the RJE Configuration command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

Sort Order

Allows the user to change the display and print order of spool documents. If this right has not been granted, the Sort Order command on the Spool Window's View menu will be unavailable.

Spool Window

Allows the user to save changes when they customize the view of the Spool and Retain windows. If this right has not been granted, Save Settings, Save Settings As, and Save As Retain Settings commands on the Spool Window's View menu will be unavailable.

User Security

Allows the user to assign user security rights to other users. If user security rights have been enabled, rights can be assigned to other users in areas that the user has access. If this right has not been granted, the User Rights Configuration utility will not be available.

Document rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign these global document rights.

Option

Description

Confirmation Dialog

Allows the user to disable the delete confirmation message from the Spool Window and Retain Window. If this right has not been granted, the Confirm Delete command in the Document menu will be unavailable.

Copy Counts

Allows the user to change the number of printed copies. When this right has been granted, users will be able to modify the number of copies even if the Document - Modify right has not been assigned.

Delete

Allows the user to delete a document. When this right has not been granted, the Delete command in the Document menu will be unavailable.

Hold

Allows the user to change the document state to Hold. When this right has not been granted, the Hold and Ready commands in the Document menu will be unavailable.

Modify

Allows the user to modify document attributes that are typically editable. If this right has not been granted, all columns that are included in the window will appear shaded in gray (unavailable). The exceptions include the priority, copy count, and page range. See the Document - Priority, Document - Copy Counts, and Document - Page Range rights for more information.

Page Range

Allows the user to modify the Page Start and Page End columns for reprinting. When this right has been granted, users will be able to modify page range even if the Document - Modify right has not been assigned.

Priority

Allows the user to modify the job priority column, NJHGPRIO. When this right has been granted, users will be able to modify print job priorities even if the Document - Modify right has not been assigned.

Rights Override

Allows the users global rights assigned with the User Rights Configuration utility to take precedence over any removed document rights.

View

Allows the user to view and reprint files. When this right has not been granted, the View and Send To options in the Spool Window will be unavailable.

Management rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign these global configuration rights.

Option

Description

Diagnostics

Allows the user to access the Diagnostics Utility. If this right has not been granted, the Diagnostics command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

Make Banner

Allows the user to access the Make Banner utility. If this right has not been granted, the Make Banner command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

Make FCB

Allows the user to access the Make FCB utility. If this right has not been granted, the Make FCB command on the Spool Window’s Tools menu will be unavailable.

Page Layout

Allows the user to specify page setup options such as paper size, orientation, fonts, and font sizes when printing to a computer printer (for example, a desktop laser printer). If this right has not been granted, the Configuration Utility's Page Layout tab will not be visible.

NJE rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign this global NJE right.

NJE Console

Allows the user to access the NJE Console utility. If this right has not been granted, the NJE Console command on the Spool Window's Tools menu will be unavailable.

Printer rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign these global printer rights.

Option

Explanation

Disable

Allows a user to disable a selected printer. If this right has not been granted, the State column will be active, but the Disable feature will not be visible. This right is also needed to initialize a printer, send a form feed to a printer, and to ready a printer.

Modify

Allows the user to modify printer routing information. If this right has not been granted, the Spool Window's FCB, Form, Class, Priority, and Copies columns will be unavailable.

Rename

Allows a user to rename a printer through the Configuration Utility's Spool Printers tab.

For this right to function properly, the user must be granted the Configure - Printer and Disk Settings right. This additional right will be automatically granted by the User Rights Configuration Utility.

Reprint

Allows the user to reprint a selected document.

Show All

Allows the user to specify if a printer can be hidden from the Spool Window. It also allows the user to show or hide printers in the Spool Window. If this right has not been granted, the Printer can be hidden option on the Configuration Utility's Advanced Printer Options dialog box and the Show All Printers and Hide Printers commands in the Spool Window's Document menu will be unavailable.

Retain rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign these global retain rights.

Description

Access

Allows the user to view the Retain Window where printed and deleted spool documents are stored. To use this feature, the user must also enable the Retain feature from the Configuration Utility's Spool and Retain tab. If this right has not been granted, the View Retain command in the Document menu will not be available.

Delete

Allows the user to delete spool documents from the retain folder where printed and deleted spool documents are stored. To use this feature, the Retain - Access right must be granted and the user must also enable the Retain feature from the Configuration Utility's Spool and Retain tab. If the Retain - Access right is enabled, but the Retain - Delete right is disabled, the user can view but not delete retained documents.

For this right to function properly, the user must be granted the Retain - Access right. This additional right will be automatically granted by the User Rights Configuration utility.

Restore

Allows the user to restore printed or deleted spooled documents that have been retained. To use this feature, the Retain - Access right must be granted and the user must also enable the Retain feature form the Configuration Utility's Spool and Retain tab. If the Retain - Access right is enabled, but the Retain - Restore right is disabled, the user can view but not restore retained documents.

For this right to function properly, the user must be granted the Retain - Access right. This additional right will be automatically granted by the User Rights Configuration utility.

RJE rights

From the User Rights Configuration utility, you can assign these global RJE rights.

To configure RJE, you must be a member of the local Administrators group. Users with the Configure - RJE right can operate the RJE Configuration Utility in read-only mode. See the Configure rights section.
